I will dive into it directly, while the Issue for the game is still open, it runs smooth on my machine.

How to

- Under Properties -> Compatibility -> Check the
Force the use...and select Proton 6.21 in the dropdown. - Rename the movie folder, like in the Reddit post described.
- I did the following, but that but IT DID NOT help:

cp ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/AoE2DE/vc_redist.x64.exe ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/813780/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/vc_redist.x64.exe

sudo cabextract vc_redist.x64.exe
sudo cabextract a10
sudo chown -R $USER:$USER .Important I had the game on a NTFS file installed and the game only worked after moving it to my main drive.
Retro
Proton Layer really does wonder. I can not only run AoE 2 DE, but also Control and Ori and the Blind Forest. I am really looking foward to the Steam Deck.
